A colorful portrait of a long haired black cat named Felix in a bright bold psychedelic style with rainbow colors. Acrylic painting on canvas. In the original reference photo, this kitty was laying down on the carpet in front of a sofa, with the light coming from behind. I sought to replicate the dramatic backlighting, while striving to make it as colorful as possible. I used a palette of full saturation colors for this cat portrait. Most long haired cats have fur that is a lighter color on the areas with the longest fur, such as the neck, belly, and rear end. In long haired black cats, this can be very pronounced, with the fur in these areas being various shades of grey, in contrast to their face, legs and back which are black. In addition, many black cats can experience "bronzing" of their coat, where the black takes on a rusty brown color due to sun bleaching. This is why the mane of this cat and his belly fur are so much lighter than the face in the painting.
